Russian PM orders to halt sales of non-food alcohol

MOSCOW, Dec 23 (PRIME) -- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the Director of the consumer rights authority Anna Popova to suspend sales of non-food alcoholic products with alcohol content of higher than 25% on Friday.

Popova said, “There is a following proposal: to suspend sales of non-food alcoholic products with alcohol content above 25% for an up to 30-day term in the country at large, safe for perfume, windshield washers. At the same time, we must scale up the additional control over them.”

Medvedev authorized her to sign the restrictions and control their implementation.

Mass poisoning with a liquid called haw infusion has taken lives of 75 people since Monday. The government said that access to technical and medical alcohol-containing liquids must be severely restricted.
